Ann Street/Providence Place Gardens, Brighton The Lively Cities pilot project site in Brighton & Hove is formed of Ann Street and a are of green space (Providence Place Gardens) in front of the imposing nineteenth century St Bartholomew’s Church. The site is part of the wider planned but incremental regeneration of the London Road area of the city. The site is located to the north of Brighton city centre, on a key east-west pedestrian route connecting a string of well-used destinations within the city including the London Road shopping centre, The Level (park,) the residential areas around Elm Grove/Lewes Road/Hanover and Brighton Station. It is only one of a few public green spaces in an otherwise densely developed part of the city. Although investment was made in 2004 to improve the space relatively few people choose to spend much time in it, despite the fact that a wide range of people live and work nearby and more than 3,700 pedestrians pass through the project area every day,. → Communities: The Lively Cities' team has been working with the representatives from the following groups:
Representatives of these groups meet periodically to inform project development. → Other communities: In addition to the core community representatives, the wider community is consulted at certain stages for the project via a series of dedicated consultation events and site assessment work to gather feedback and inform project development. |
